NETWORK & COVERAGE
Current
The heart of our current network is the space segment which is comprised of two geostationary satellites in an orbit 36,000 kilometers above the earth matching the earth's rotation.
The ground segment, commonly referred to as the Communication Ground Segment (CGS) is its nervous system, providing the links to terrestrial public and private phone and data networks.
Future
SkyTerra's next generation network will provide ubiquitous wireless coverage throughout North America using an all-Internet Protocol (IP) open architecture.
The space segment will be comprised of two new satellites currently under development with Boeing, and will be among the most powerful commercial satellites ever built. These satellites will form the backbone of an advanced telecommunications network being developed by SkyTerra LP and its Canadian joint venture partner, SkyTerra (Canada) Inc.
